Jane – There are various reasons why the leaves of your tomato plant turn brown.

The most likely is a shortage of magnesium in the soil. You can find supplements at any garden store, or even on Amazon.

Another thing I recommend is cutting off the brown leaves, so the nutrients go to the rest of the plant.

what do you do when you’ll plant turns brown?how do you keep if from drying out in the hot sun?

This is the Nitrogen I use. It makes a huge difference to the growth rate of legumes, especially beans and peas: Seachem Flourish Nitrogen 500ml. Before adding lots of Nitrogen check the content of the soil. There are expensive test kits but this one is very good value and works just as well: LAWN CHECK - NITROGEN AND ACIDITY TEST KIT Let me know how you get on.
